Recorded in March 2023, Jesu Meine Freude is a collection of Lenten-themed music, created in preparation for a visit to the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, the final resting place of Johann Sebastian Bach.
At the heart of this recording is Bach's Jesu Meine Freude, the most expansive of his six motets. The program also includes works by William Byrd and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, as well as the Miserere by Schola patron Sir James MacMillan.
Additionally, the collection features a performance by Malakai Bayoh of 'Zerfließe, mein Herze' from Bach's St John Passion, accompanied by St James's Baroque.
